Sweet Summertime

It has been quite the busy summer for me! And it’s not over yet. Here’s a quick recap:

June started off with a creative retreat called “Triangulate your Creativity”, hosted by an artist from Montreal. I spent a lovely weekend with some amazingly creative souls at this place on Île d’Orléans. It was truly a magical time; not only did I come away feeling creatively fulfilled, but it also gave me an opportunity to realize just how close this life of mine I’m living is to my dream life. I just need to stop sometimes and realize that. So incredibly grateful for the experience.

Creative Retreat:

Most of the rest of June was spent preparing for my first big festival, Mtl en Arts. I had shown my work before, at a small fair here in Quebec City, but this was my first BIG show. I got a chance to connect with so many interesting people, to talk about my art, to explore and get to know Montreal a little bit- what an experience.

Mtl en Arts 2022:

One gentleman I met at the festival (who definitely seemed like he knew some things about art) told me he thought I should pursue another upcoming show in Montreal, and after some thought, I decided to go for it. So a few weeks later I gathered up all my newest works and returned to Montreal for the first ever Salon des Artistes, hosted by Galerie Lenoir.

In July I also heard about, applied for, and got accepted to my first live painting experience- I participated in the inaugural Art Battle event here in Quebec City. I was nervous to see how my abstract, intuitive, layered approach would translate into a creating a completed painting in just 20 minutes, but I had no need to be nervous. What an absolute rush that was. And I’m already looking forward to the next one.

Art Battle:

Oh, I almost forgot- in July I also participated in Art and Seek, this really cool initiative where you wrap up a piece of art, hide it, and wait for somebody to come and find themselves a free piece of artwork! I was in Montreal for the Mtl en Arts festival on the day of the event, so I selected one of my pieces, wrapped it up in paper, hid it, and was able to sit in my tent across the street to watch for somebody to come pick it up. Which they did! I hope wherever it ended up, it brings a little joy to its new home.

Art and Seek 2022:

And I believe that brings us up to date!

If you made it out to one of these events, yay! I’m glad to have met you! If you didn’t, don’t despair, I’ve already got a bunch more on the calendar, so come on out and say hi!
